Biography
Hailing from the small town of Lumberton, Mississippi, Mr.
Smith has been making his mark on the opera world from the
very beginnings of his operatic vocal study.

It all began when Smith was a senior in high school.  He was
chosen as a National Scholar by the prestigious
Horatio Alger
Association of Distinguished Americans.  The scholarship he
received allowed him to attend college.  Otherwise he would not
have been able to afford a higher education.

In his first year studying opera privately, he was a third prize
winner in the
Mobile Opera Guild's Rose Palmai-Tenser
Competition.  Then, while attending the
University of Southern
Mississippi for a Vocal Performance degree, he was accepted to
participate in the Opera Colorado Artist Center in October of
2000.  He decided to delay his pursuit of a degree and
immediately move to Denver to take advantage of a professional
environment.

One year after moving to NYC, Smith made his Carnegie Hall
debut as soloist for Händel’s
Messiah on November 28th, 2004.

Smith has been seen  performing Mozart’s
Requiem in the East
Hamptons,
Amahl and the Night Visitors in NYC, Connecticut
and San Diego and many concerts and benefits in the NYC
metropolitan area.

Just for fun, Smith even appeared as an extra in this season of
the HBO hit series
The Sopranos
Episode 70, "Mr. & Mrs. John Sacrimoni Request..."

After singing for a competition in February 2006 and not being
advanced to the next level.  A patroness of the Denver opera
scene asked Smith to join her for brunch the next day.  She
explained her disgust for the competition and that she wanted to
do something about it.  She then presented him with her own
"First Prize for Basses" award.  It is with the generosity of her
very gracious gift that this website is presented to you.

After writing to the
Horatio Alger Association to inform them
about everything he had been accomplishing, Smith was asked to
perform at the 2007 Inaugural Dinner.  He traveled to D.C. to
perform with the Capital Symphony Orchestra for guests such as
Justice Clarence Thomas, Tom Brokaw and Jenny Craig.

Smith was then asked to return to D.C. in June to sing the
National Anthem for the Susan G. Komen Foundation's
National
Race for the Cure.  Hosted by Katie Couric on the Mall, the
event was the largest run/walk fund-raising event in the world
with over 46,000 registered participants raising over $4 million
dollars.

Smith is currently engaged for the 2007-08 season with
Dicapo
Opera Theatre.  He will be featured in the company's
productions of
Romeo et Juliette, La fanciulla del West and
several concerts throughout the season.
